POETRY

"Poetry expresses the universal," wrote Aristotle, and, indeed, only poetry can express the complex depths of human emotion, the ephemeral qualities of love, the nostalgia for days long past, the agony of loss, the whirlpools of despair, the mysteries of death.   Poetry also can enter the soul.  It can inspire hope and aspirations and evoke beauty and delight.  In the dark coldness of Winter, it can remind us that the gentle warmth and golden days of Spring lie just ahead."
